ESR 5 will research “‘Street’ culture, youth and the urban experience of gender equality”, investigating the ways in which ‘gender equality’ features in the experiences, performances and understandings of young people as producers, consumers and spectators of urban cultures as they operate outside the bounds of ‘high’ and bourgeois culture, and as they engage with difference (ethnicity, race, diasporic subjectivity). Participants will use established methods, new digital technology, such as smartphone apps, and social media to create their own narratives and performances of gender equality in the city. This research is part of Work Package 2 “Urban Cultures of Gender Equality” led by Oviedo University and Hull University . This ESR will be employed by and complete a PhD at The University of Oviedo, and will be required to undertake a secondment at the University of Hull.
