GRACE Event Series #5 – (Media)ted @Hull [updated w/pics!]

As part of the event series ‘The Conversation Continues’, the second intervention (Media)ted finalizes on the 13th of June 2018. (Media)ted developed in collaboration between Hull-based artist Lou Hazelwood and Early Stage Researcher Barbara Grabher (University of Hull). The project reflects artistically the academic interests of Grabher’s research project ‘Gendering Cities of Culture’. Through a multimedia approach, Hazelwood introduced processes of mediating, contrasting and recycling to the experiential exploration of the production of cultures of equality through Hull2017.

The six months collaboration terminates on the 13th of June 2018 through a performative reading. Hazelwood and Grabher gathered the material for the multimedia performance from a participatory filming project in the months of December 2017 and January 2018, asking pedestrians to lend their faces for a collage of ever-changing blue and pink reflections. Furthermore, through the critical eye of Hazelwood, media statements particularly published on Hull2017 Twitter channels are recycled, highlighted and twisted. The visual backdrop and articulated reading fuse in this ultimate performance, which is live recorded on this occasion and intends to further create stimulus for conversations through its dissemination in online channels.
